Ramparts and Faces project has been redesigned

My photography project “Ramparts and Faces” which focuses on Istanbul’s ancient walls, has undergone a comprehensive revision process in pursuit of a collective memory and a deeper visual narrative.

This update is not merely an editing exercise; it is an effort to bring together the documentary layers of the project, its historical conflicts, and the “images” that breathe in the shadow of the walls with a more refined rhythm. The new structure of the project features an expanded selection of 30 images, ranging from the physical intervention of restoration to the silent moments of faith.

What Has Changed?

Thematic Sectioning: The narrative is divided into five main sections: The Volume of Stone, Living Images, Intervention and Labor, Faith and Boundaries, and Finale.

Expanded Archive: With new images added to the project, the pressure of urban transformation and modernism on the historical fabric has been made more apparent.

Artisan Perspective: Each photograph has been reevaluated with an “artisan’s” meticulousness, focusing on the texture of the stone, the drama of light, and the human presence in the space.

You can visit the renewed gallery to discover how these stones, the silent witnesses of Istanbul, speak to us today.
